Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science came into my...

From the December 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science came into my experience many years ago, when I lived in Mexico. I had for some time been earnestly seeking God. My parents had taught me to love God and to pray to Him, but my prayers seemed not to have been answered. The verse from Luke (11:9), "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you," made me keep praying that this might come true for me.

During this period of seeking for the truth my husband's business took him to Mexico, and I went with him. There were three American women in the city, one of whom was a student of Christian Science. We became close friends, and she gave me the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, to read. As a result a wonderful healing of a false concept of God took place— found God.

A few years later we came to Los Angeles to live, and our younger daughter was born there. When she was about four years old, she became very ill with pneumonia. I was not ready to turn completely to Christian Science for healing, and so a doctor was called. He gave us little if any hope for her recovery. The fourth night of her illness I heard her struggling to breathe and hurried to her. Her face was purple with fever, and death seemed much nearer than God. I realized that no human aid could heal, and these words came to me: "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." I turned completely to God. I said aloud, "God, she is Yours, not mine; You take her, and please heal her." I shall never forget the peace and security I felt. I had placed her in the arms of divine Love. In a very few moments her face and breathing became normal, and she opened her eyes and said, "Good night, Mother." I spent the rest of the night in prayerful gratitude. When the doctor called the following morning he said: "A miracle has happened. No medicine could have done this." I only replied, "Doctor, I prayed last night."
