I should like to take this opportunity...

From the December 1946 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I should like to take this opportunity to give expression to my deep gratitude for the many blessings which Christian Science has brought me.

My introduction to Science came through physical healing. In the fall of 1934, I was under the care of a physician for lymphatic infection. Over a period of several weeks almost constant pain had been relieved at frequent intervals by minor surgery, but there was no real improvement. While I was visiting relatives in another city, it was recommended to me that I try Christian Science. I was not interested in religion, for I had found the practices I had observed and the theologies I had studied to be illogical and impractical. However, because medical care was affording no healing, and because I was fearful that the condition was developing into malignancy, I decided to request the aid of a practitioner.

I had been given a copy of The Christian Science Journal and instructed as to the use of the section containing the names of practitioners. I selected one simply because of geographical convenience, telephoned for an appointment, and visited her immediately. I explained the nature of my physical difficulty and said that I knew practically nothing of Christian Science. When she asked me if I believed in God, truth compelled a negative reply, for I did not believe what I had been taught in the churches which I had attended.
