"We have nothing to fear when Love is at the helm of thought, but everything to enjoy on earth and in heaven" (Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy, p. 113). I submit these words of gratitude as a testification to the deep enjoyment of a life blessed by Christian Science.
Although I was born into a Science home and was the recipient of many blessings through its ministrations in my childhood, I wandered off into what I thought were brighter paths of sophistication, cynicism, intellectual speculation. At the outbreak of the war I wanted to join one of the women's services, but was certain that I could not pass the physical examination because a previous examination for employment had revealed that I was what the doctor called "a walking corpse."
Wisdom led me to take the necessary steps, however, and the night before the examination was to be given I turned to my long-forgotten books and earnestly studied "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468) and received help from a member of the family. The next day I was overjoyed to find that the Army doctors could find nothing wrong with me.
