It has been so many years since my testimony appeared in print that I wish again to express gratitude for my many blessings. Christian Science has been our only physician for many years, our only help in time of need, no matter what the exigency. It has been of inestimable value in bringing up our four children, who now all have their own homes. We learned many truths from the mouths of those babes.
One of the most outstanding healings in our home, brought about through the reading of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was the healing of our six-months-old baby of a severe case of croup. The condition came on suddenly, and I was overcome with fear. I had taught our children to turn to God for every little thing and had worked out many trying problems in Christian Science myself, but when the supreme test came I found myself turning to an old material remedy— a cold, wet cloth around the child's throat. However, it did not alleviate the strangling, but seemed to intensify it. At this point our four-year-old daughter entered the room and began to laugh; then she said, "Mother, you are so funny to think an old wet rag can help baby sister more than God can." This rebuke awakened me to the absurdity of my fears and actions.
I immediately placed the choking child in her crib, and taking up Science and Health I humbly prayed for guidance. I opened the book to pages 476 and 477, and there in what seemed to me large black headlines I found the following statement: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."
