With grace and buoyancy he trod the wave,
And then he said to you and me,
"The works that I do, you shall also do,
And greater."
O Master, may I heed this lesson!
The message and example are so clear,
The law unchanged, supporting still
The greater works remaining to be done.
To him no law of nature said: Thus far;
This is the land, and this the water.
When called to do his Father's work,
No human element could interfere.
He gave no weight to what the body said;
No heaviness of thought was ever his.
How could he sink?
When I will put aside these weights,
Discard encumbering theories
Of time and space and flesh,
With grace and buoyancy I too shall walk
In Spirit's certainty of real substance.
The stormy waves that threaten to engulf
Will find no answering fear;
Resurgent with exalted purpose
I shall grasp the outstretched hand of Christ
And walk enraptured.
