THE SPIRITUAL VIEW

From the June 1947 issue of The Christian Science Journal

WHEN mortal man turns from the material view of existence to the spiritual, changes for the better in human experience are inevitable. These improvements in the mortal scene are proofs that nothing has changed in reality; that all that is real is always good and harmonious in God's infinite kingdom. Changes in human experience, when brought about through the realization of the unchanging spiritual truth of being, prove the human, material belief of life to be illusive and the spiritual view of man as the immortal idea of divine Mind, God, to be real.

These changes bring one's human experience into closer conformity with the spiritual fact, actually displacing in some degree the mortal, inharmonious picture with the immortal, God-made truth, leaving no room for doubt as to which concept of being is genuine and which is counterfeit. Whatever exists in the universe of eternal Mind must be unchanging in quality. Whatever gives way to the consciousness of God as eternal Mind must of necessity be outside of Mind—in and of nothingness. What may be called a change for the better in human experience, then, is but the disappearance of a dream before the appearance of truth.

On page 471 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes: "God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence. Hence the spirituality of the universe is the only fact of creation." If nothing is present or has power but God, whom we know as Spirit, Life, Truth, and Love, and if nothing is really creation but the spiritual and perfect, where is disease? Where is failure? Where is the broken heart? Where is the belief in material life and death? Where is the destructive force which threatens the extermination of the race, the greed which would selfishly control it, the fear which would make it a reality? In not one of these false material concepts can eternal Life be found. In not one of them can the presence of Love be discerned. In not one is divine Truth expressed. There is nothing spiritual or Spiritlike in these claims to reality and power which mortal mind would have us accept. They are exactly nothing.
