Christian Science healing is based upon the revelation of God as absolute Truth, perfect Mind, and of man as Mind's perfect, hence absolute, formation—God's likeness, which cannot be contaminated by evil. And it interprets the healings and the life of Christ Jesus as proofs of these facts. This Science explains human existence as not absolute, because it is imperfect; and its healing method is designed to awaken humanity from the mortal dream of life in matter to the joy of absolute spiritual existence in God.
Its Discoverer, Mary Baker Eddy, says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 492): "For right reasoning there should be but one fact before the thought, namely, spiritual existence. In reality there is no other existence, since Life cannot be united to its unlikeness, mortality." The fact which right reasoning acknowledges is the ever-present creation of Spirit, a universe peopled with conscious identities which embody goodness in its divine purity and in its infinite scope of action. These identities, or ideas, are tangible to spiritual sense, and even a glimpse of them illumines human consciousness with divinely mental qualities that destroy carnal tendencies.
Right reasoning affirms the facts of absolute Truth, God and His ideas, but it does not ignore the mortal concepts, which also seem to be before human thought. Instead, it evaluates them as not facts, but illusions which Truth dispels; and this correct evaluation plays a vital part in scientific healing. It is only from the vantage point of understanding absolute Truth that we can subordinate the material sense of existence to the divine.
