In Proverbs is found the significant statement (29:18), "Where there is no vision, the people perish." And Christian Science teaches the correlative fact that where spiritual vision exists, the people are saved. Just as in human development many laws were not utilized or appreciated until discerned by progressive discovery, just so the laws of spiritual being, which enforce spiritual wholeness, health, and supply, need to be understood, or spiritually discerned, in order that we may utilize them in daily experience.
God, Spirit, the only creator, made all that was made, and He made all perfect, harmonious, and eternal. As the image and likeness of God, Spirit, man is spiritual. He has spiritual senses and consciousness. He lives, moves, and has his being in the infinite God, or Mind. He has spiritual substance, and God's laws constitute his being and activity. He is the expression of the divine Principle, God.
Jesus was constantly proving these facts in his daily ministry, healing those who were receptive to his word. His clear spiritual vision, or understanding, saw the reality of harmonious being where the opposite deception appeared to mortal sense. Comparing Jesus to his opponents, Mary Baker Eddy states in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 52), "His senses drank in the spiritual evidence of health, holiness, and life; their senses testified oppositely, and absorbed the material evidence of sin, sickness, and death."
