More than thirty years ago I began the study of Christian Science for relief from an illness of many years' standing. I was weak and had lost much weight and was in constant pain. Although I had been treated by a number of reputable physicians over a period of several years, none of them knew what the trouble was, nor could they give me any lasting relief. I accepted a friend's advice and telephoned a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. I knew nothing about this Science and did not know that I was instantly healed, but for the first time in many nights I slept, awakening the afternoon of the following day free from all pain. I shall always be grateful for this healing.
Because I was many pounds underweight, I thought I should convalesce, and the following forty-five days were spent mostly in bed. During these days I read all the published works of Mrs. Eddy, borrowing them from the Reading Room. While I was reading the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of periodic sick headaches from which I had suffered since girlhood, also of chronic sore throat. It was then I realized that these healings occurred from my acceptance of the truths contained in the book. It was not difficult for me to see that the Word of God heals, for I had been brought up in a large family where morning prayer began each day.
Early in my study of Christian Science, I read "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur. It made me appreciate her and her work for mankind.
