Christian Science has been my only physician and my helper in every need for over thirty years. I am grateful for the many healings which members of my family and I have received. Among the difficulties healed were severe colds, laryngitis, indigestion, and pleurisy. I am grateful that practitioners always turned our thoughts to the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings and gave us work to do in studying them as our part in the demonstration of the healing Truth. Severe backache, when the patient was unable to stand, sit, or lie down with any comfort, was healed in a few hours through the study of "No and Yes" by Mrs. Eddy and the faithful work of the practitioner.
When quite young in the understanding of Christian Science, one day I began to manifest symptoms of grippe. My mother was obliged to be away, so I read and studied our textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, as best I could, although troubled by great drowsiness and high fever. Finally I turned to the Christian Science Hymnal and at intervals sang several hymns, especially Hymn No. 382, which begins, "What is thy birthright, man." Gradually I turned in thought to the perfect man and to his birthright as the image of God. When next I thought about myself I could see that the trouble was lessening. The next morning I awoke to find that every trace of the disease had disappeared.
At the time of my mother's passing on, I was wonderfully protected and upheld. A Christian Science Reader had conducted the service, and afterwards several friends who are not Christian Scientists said to me, "It was like an hour of triumph — there was not a note of gloom anywhere." What a tribute to the healing power of the Comforter, of which Mrs. Eddy has written (Science and Health, p. 55): "In the words of St. John: 'He shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.' This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science."
