"We must seek the undivided garment, the whole Christ, as our first proof of Christianity, for Christ, Truth, alone can furnish us with absolute evidence." Thus writes Mary Baker Eddy on page 142 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."
Though I had the privilege of attending the Christian Science Sunday School as a child and the church services intermittently as far back as I can remember, there was a period of years when I tried to serve both God and mammon. The pleasures of the senses seemed to hold an appealing influence over me; however, the seed of Truth had been sown in the Sunday School, and my belief and faith in Christian Science never faltered. But belief and faith are not enough; there must be understanding, as I learned through an experience that I had a number of years ago.
An enlarged salivary gland caused my chin to become very much swollen. A member of my family was greatly concerned and insisted that a physician be consulted. The verdict was that the condition was grave and necessitated an immediate operation. This sentence fanned the flame of rebellion in me and kindled an intense desire to know the truth of being. Immediately help was asked for from a Christian Science practitioner whose residence was twenty-five hundred miles away, and with one treatment the healing was complete, the false evidence disappearing entirely in several days. There has not been the slightest suggestion of a return of this condition. My gratitude for this experience is boundless, since it was the means of my becoming an earnest student of Christian Science.
