I have enjoyed the protection and blessings of Christian Science for many years, and I can gratefully testify to its healing and harmonizing influence.
In 1915, at the age of twenty-one, I was urged by a physician to seek a milder climate because a diagnosis showed that I had incipient tuberculosis. I took up residence with loving relatives in California and for about a year continued the medical treatment and bodily care recommended for one with a lung condition. However, I felt no improvement, and having heard Christian Science mentioned often, I decided to visit a practitioner for information. After a few weeks of continued visits and study, I discontinued the diets, rests, and other material methods I had been following. I soon discovered that my strength was equal to a full day's work. I took strenuous hikes with friends, and finally I was entirely free and strong. In 1917 I entered the Army and spent two years in France under conditions of rigorous living that removed all doubt from my thought that the lung condition had been completely healed.
For some years after I returned to California my study of Christian Science was desultory, but I frequently asked for and received help from loving practitioners, particularly in solving business problems. Pipes and cigars had been my constant companion, but one day I discovered the smoking habit was completely overcome, and it came about without any sense of will power.
