Testimonies of Healing

In Psalms (107:8) we read, "Oh that...

From the January 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Psalms (107:8) we read, "Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!" And on page 94 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we learn that giving thanks, or expressing gratitude, is an acknowledgment of the divine Principle which has healed us.

In the Preface to Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." I became interested in Christian Science over thirty-seven years ago when my mother, out of curiosity, attended a Christian Science lecture. Since that time I have had many blessings and benefits, and many proofs that Christian Science heals. I have been healed in a few days of a badly sprained ankle, painful boils, blood poisoning, ptomaine poisoning, grippe, athlete's foot, neuritis, and colds. A thumb that was nearly severed from the hand was restored to its normal condition in a very short time.

In our textbook (pp. 12, 13) is the following helpful statement: "In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as 'a very present help in trouble.'" Some years ago, I had an opportunity to prove the availability of God as "a very present help in trouble." I was saved from being electrocuted. One wet, misty night my brother-in-law and I started to erect an aerial for a new radio. He fastened the copper wire to the roof of the house and then dropped the other end of the wire down to me. As I began to stretch the wire out toward the garage, the aerial became entangled in some grapevines. I gave the wire a hard pull to free it, and it came in contact with some live wires. Immediately I received a bad electric shock, and I could not let go of the wire. I yelled for help, but my brother-in-law did not hear me. Then I realized that God is ever present, and I remembered the wonderful definition Mrs. Eddy gives us of God. As I repeated the last word of this definition, I fainted, and the aerial and the live wires broke contact. Instantly I was freed. When I became conscious I ran into the house and related the experience to my mother and sister, assuring them that I was all right. I was completely free and was able to keep a social engagement an hour later.
