THE INSPIRED WORD AND ITS HEAVENLY INSPIRATION

From the October 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We cannot achieve complete success in the healing work of Christian Science without the gift of heavenly inspiration. As the children of God we possess this gift, but it is one we must continuously claim and cultivate. Heavenly inspiration gives mental clarity and bodily buoyancy. In this, all things become new, and all burdens are made light. Heavenly inspiration finds no place for self-pity or self-righteousness, for in its light these errors do not exist.

Mary Baker Eddy was inspired of God when she wrote the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Indeed, every word of her published writings is lit by the heavenly radiance of divine Love. Our great Leader commenced her quest for Truth by searching the inspired Word of the Bible, and she expects her followers to do likewise. She writes (Science and Health, p. 497), "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

The study of the inspired Word of the Bible in its spiritual meaning never fails to bring inspiration and an accompanying power to heal. God speaks to us through His inspired Word, and His inspired Word is to be found in the Scriptures.
