GOD ALONE IS THE PROVIDER OF MAN

From the October 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God is the source of man's supply. Infinite Spirit does not provide man with matter. All-intelligent Mind does not purvey belief, nor does divine Love bestow upon man the emptiness of illusion. The infinite and immeasurable bounty of spiritual ideas is God's supply to man. The acknowledgment of God alone as the source and substance of supply is the forerunner of the spiritual understanding that God is All-in-all; hence there can be no other sustenance for man.

Authority for the premise that God, Spirit, is All is found in the Bible. For example, we read in the one hundred and thirty-ninth Psalm: "Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.... Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?"

Man is the expression of Spirit, the image and likeness of Mind; therefore man is not in need of matter, alias material sense. There is no avenue by which the suggestions of matter can come to him, for the senses of man are spiritual, emanating from intelligence. Spiritual man is one with Mind, is its idea, and is endowed with its supreme intelligence. Man, as a child of Love, is constantly supplied with the tenderness and care of his ever-present Father-Mother God.
