Christian Science has been my only physician for many years. It has brought me numerous blessings, and I am indeed grateful to testify to its healing power. Almost forty years ago I was healed of what was diagnosed as quick consumption. The doctor who made the diagnosis gave me not more than three months to live. A friend asked me if I would like to have a Christian Science practitioner. I knew nothing about this Science; so I did not understand what she meant. She told me about the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures'" by Mary Baker Eddy, and I agreed to read it, for I thought I would like to know more about this teaching before I consented to have a practitioner.
I found the first chapter, which is entitled "Prayer," so beautiful that I continued to read. Although I did not understand at first all I read, as I continued to read, the meaning gradually unfolded. I became so interested that I completely forgot myself and did not know just when the healing took place. It was evidently instantaneous, for the hemorrhages that accompanied the disease ceased immediately.
While reading Science and Health I gained a great desire to read the Bible also; and I knew then that Christian Science is the same truth as that in the Scriptures. The following statement, found on page 393 of Science and Health, contained a challenging thought which was a great help to me: "Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man."
