She shared with us the bright and morning star,
Her heart's discovery of endless life;
For us she swung the gates of heaven ajar,
Unfolding peace when everywhere was strife.
As Hagar thirsted in the wilderness,
Nor saw at hand the sparkling fountain play,
So we, before she taught us Love's largess,
Were hungered where the glistening manna lay.
When cruel Pharaohs crowd us to the strand
And iron chariots cut off all retreat,
Her star of morning, ever close at hand.
Reveals the Red Sea parting at our feet.
Oh, in the crossing, do we pause to praise
This noble woman standing in its rays?
