I Became a student of Christian Science through reading to my mother from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. For years my mother had been an invalid, suffering from heart trouble, stomach trouble, and nervous breakdown, to mention only a few of her difficulties. She decided to rely on Christian Science and threw out all her medicines. Thereafter, instead of carrying around with her a basket of medicine, she carried a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Gradually her ailments were overcome, and she became well and strong, doing all her own work and taking care of my grandparents, who came to live with us. When she suffered from a goiter, she was again healed through Christian Science.
Among my early experiences in Christian Science was the overcoming of a great fear of storms. Now I can be out in the worst storms with no fear. Another wonderful healing was that of a serious kidney condition, from which I had suffered much pain and embarrassment. With the help of a practitioner the healing was instantaneous. At the same time an eye condition was corrected. Although it had been so bad that my parents had to request that I be seated on the front seat of the classroom to see what was written on the blackboard, I was at once able to read very fine print without difficulty.
Before taking up the study of this Science I was out of school about half the time, but after taking up its study I missed only a half day of school in a period of twelve years. Since leaving school I have not missed a day of work in twenty-four years, a fact for which I am deeply grateful and for which I give Christian Science all the credit.
