"Trust in Truth, and have no other trusts". The writer heard these words when our Leader spoke them from her balcony at Pleasant View (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 171). Trust in Truth leaves no room for trust in material personality and human opinions, either our own or others', for nothing can be added to or taken from Truth. It is unerring; it is the only reality.
Our Leader's directive points to the fulfillment of our Master's command (Mark 8:34. 35): "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it." This denial of self does not lead to oblivion but, on the contrary, supports Christ Jesus' further command (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your father which is in heaven is perfect."
Jesus found it necessary to stress the denial of self because of the human belief in dualism. His followers, while appearing to be living in a time and space world, are to demonstrate their present immortality. He foretold the coming of the Comforter which would lead into all truth. This Comforter has come to this age as Christian Science, and through its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy has brought the divine and complete revelation of Truth. It is the Science of being, in which there is no dual sense. Through the practical application of this Science the mortal sense grows less real to human consciousness, and the immortal, godly, holy sense becomes more real.
