I feel that it is my duty to show my appreciation of the spiritual understanding and healing I have gained by the study of Christian Science. For a period of seven years I was a patient in various hospitals, fighting a far-advanced case of tuberculosis. When my hope of ever getting well was at its lowest ebb I found a Christian Science Sentinel and read it from beginning to end. What I read appealed to me so much that I wanted to learn more of the teachings of Christian Science.
It was then that I became acquainted with a Christian Scientist, an event which I shall always be thankful for. He came to visit me in the hospital every week, bringing The Christian Science Monitor and other authorized literature. In talking with me he found that I was receptive to the truth, and he gave me a Bible and a copy of the Christian Science Quarterly, as well as "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and other books by Mary Baker Eddy.
I read Science and Health straight through; then I studied the first chapter in the Bible. After reasoning and pondering about the spiritual actuality of man's being as the reflection of God I began to gain some understanding of the truth of being. I give thanks that when I gained the true idea of perfect God and perfect man I realized that I must be alert to reject the false testimony of the material senses and to accept infinite Mind, divine Love, as the true Principle of being.
