Through the study and practice of Christian Science,...

From the August 1953 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Through the study and practice of Christian Science, with its explanations of how to cure and prevent disease, our family has been kept healthy. In joy and gratitude we thank our heavenly Father.

When our son was fourteen years old he sustained a compound fracture of the arm an inch and a half above the wrist. When my husband and I arrived at school, where the accident had occurred, we found him in little pain, for he had been applying his understanding of Christian Science. Of his own accord he had refused all sedatives that had been offered him. Splints and bandages were put on his arm by the school nurse, and then we brought him home.

After a moment's consultation as to whether or not to have a surgeon set the arm the three of us decided to take a radical stand and to rely wholly upon God. We could not have done otherwise after all the proofs that we had witnessed of the divine power and presence. On page 402 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon, but surgery is the branch of its healing which will be last acknowledged."
