Christian Science was presented to me more than thirty years ago when another member of my family and I were suffering from ivy poisoning. Medical treatment was given, but to no avail. At the loving recommendation of a dear friend, a Christian Science practitioner was asked for help, and we were instantaneously healed. Although very young, I was greatly impressed with these healings. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was then brought into our home, and whenever I did not feel well I would ask my mother to read to me from the Bible and "the little book that heals." When she did so, freedom was realized.
As I grew older I consulted medical doctors when ill, rather than relying on Truth, God. In one such case the doctors diagnosed my condition as a falling of the kidney. My weight decreased, and I was forced to quit work and wear a health belt. I continued to wear it for several years. While I was in a hospital for another problem a friend sent me a copy of Science and Health. In reading it I became conscious of the omnipresence of God, good, and realizing that a hospital room was not my rightful place, I asked to be released. My parents consented to assume all responsibility, and I was released the next day.
Immediately I went to see a practitioner, and the visit with him will always be treasured. He told me that because man is created in the image and likeness of God, Spirit, he is therefore spiritual and perfect. When I left his office I felt as though I were walking on clouds and felt that I had indeed "put off the old man with his deeds; and... put on the new man" (Col. 3: 9, 10). The difficulty for which I had gone to the hospital vanished entirely.
