The Apostle Paul told the Athenians (Acts 17: 24, 25), "God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things." Therein Paul not only imparted the fact of God's creation of all that is true, but showed the need of turning from a material form of worship to a more enlightened conception of worshiping the Father. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 4, 5), "Whatever materializes worship hinders man's spiritual growth and keeps him from demonstrating his power over error."
Christian Science teaches each sincere seeker for Truth how to interpret the Scriptures from a spiritual standpoint, whereby an understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him can be gained. Such an understanding becomes of inestimable value as the truths of the Bible, revealed in the light of Christian Science, are found to be practical and provable today in everyday affairs. Thus, through the application of spiritual understanding, the healing of all the troubles which seem to beset mankind may be accomplished. It is only when men's thinking turns from materiality, in all its aspects, that the way will be found to the attainment of peace for the individual, and consequently for nations.
The following words from the Christian Science Hymnal bespeak the necessity of loving each other as a requisite of true worship (No. 217):
