As we go about our daily affairs it is not an unusual experience to hear people discussing their problems. One may say that his problem is ill-health; another that it is lack. Still another may claim that it is discord in human relationships. If we were to accept all that we hear, we might be tempted to believe the experience of most individuals to be comprised of a series of burdensome problems.
It is important for the student of Christian Science to recognize that in whatever guise a problem may appear, it is but an aggressive and false argument of mortal belief; it is never a fact of existence, never the truth of man created in God's image and likeness. The Bible promises (Ps. 55: 22), "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee." The Christian Scientist finds that as he is willing to turn to God for guidance when confronted with a problem, he has the glorious opportunity of proving man's sonship with God.
In the Bible record of the life of Christ Jesus we find ample evidence that Jesus regarded problems as opportunities to demonstrate the truth. The Bible tells us that Jesus "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin" (Hebr. 4:15). Jesus must have been tempted at times to believe in the reality of evil when faced with sin, sickness, or death. In each instance, however, the Master rejected the material evidence of a weighty and perplexing problem for the glorious opportunity of illustrating the scientific truths that he taught. Instead of yielding to the temptations of material sense, Jesus reversed the false evidence and maintained the oneness and allness of God, and the wholeness of man as His image. Thus he freed those who believed they were in bondage to disease or adversity. He revealed to them the heritage of perfection and harmony, which was theirs as children of God.
