The human Jesus, the son of the Virgin-mother, is no longer with us; but the Christ, the spiritual idea, which Christ Jesus recognized and brought to light in his healing works, is never absent. In this age the Christ is becoming truly understood through the discovery by Mary Baker Eddy of the Science of Christ Jesus' healings and teachings.
Because of a personal sense of the Christ, the healing truth which the Master taught and demonstrated has been largely lost sight of. Men have accepted the erroneous theory that Jesus alone was endowed with healing ability. Christian Science teaches that it was not the human personality of Jesus that was the healer of the sick and sinning, but the divine Mind which governed him. Jesus himself affirmed (John 14:10), "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."
In "Miscellaneous Writings" our Leader tells of the reaction of those who witnessed her instant restoration to health after her accident in 1866, when the attending physician had no hope of her recovery from internal injuries. She writes (p. 180): "A dear old lady asked me, 'How is it that you are restored to us? Has Christ come again on earth?'
