Testimonies of Healing

Christian Science was presented to my...

From the December 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was presented to my family when I was little more than a child and at a time of great unhappiness and difficulty in our home. After a period of their mocking and arguing while the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, was read, the realization dawned on my mother and elder sister that here was the truth that was so sorely needed in our home.

Healings came fast. My mother was freed from continual headaches. I can hardly remember her without one before that. She was with us, strong and remarkably active, until well over her eightieth year. One of my sisters was immediately healed of heart trouble, although doctors had said she would never be able to be active, like other girls. I was freed from a violent temper, which was a source of much worry to my mother and to me. Also I was healed of constant colds and coughs, as well as of constipation, for which various remedies had been thought necessary almost from my babyhood. For more than forty years now I have had no recourse to any sort of material remedy. But most wonderful to us in those early days was the way in which improved thinking through a better understanding of God lifted us out of an impasse of frustration and led us like the children of Israel, through the wilderness of mortal beliefs, meeting each human need as it arose—financial, physical, and mental.

I am thankful that a progressive line of work has steadily unfolded as I have become willing to be spiritually led. There have been many struggles with human will and ambitions, but in looking back I can see that the straight and narrow way of Truth opens out into a far wider place than I had any concept of. Though my work is of a nature which is considered undependable as a means of livelihood, it has become increasingly steady as my thought has grown and steadied, and it was maintained through all the difficulties and restrictions of wartime conditions.
