Testimonies of Healing

From the December 1954 issue of The Christian Science Journal

While in my early teens I came to the conclusion that there was no God, so unreasonable and illogical were the concepts of Deity given me by well-meaning friends. To one I stated, "If there is a God, it will have to be proved to me before I accept it." Little did I know that this proof would be given.

In my last years of schooling I majored in natural science, endeavoring to find the Principle of existence which I had not found in religion as it had been presented to me, but which I intuitively felt existed. Upon graduation I was sorely disappointed not to have found this Principle, or cause of being, though there were indications of it in the natural order of the stars and in innumerable proofs of like producing like.

A year later I became seriously ill and was told that there was no hope of recovery. After one terrifying night I felt myself passing on and reached out desperately beyond human aid to what I felt must be the Principle of all being. Instantly I felt a heavenly spiritual peace and was released from the grip of fear and death, completely healed. This proved to me without doubt that there is a God, and that He is the Principle of existence. The Bible then became my constant companion. I knew intuitively that there must be some religion which would unlock the Scriptures to me, explain my spiritual healing, and enable me to heal others as Jesus healed.
