This testimony is lovingly submitted with the fervent hope that it may benefit readers in the same measure that I have been benefited by reading many testimonies in our periodicals.
My parents were introduced to Christian Science by a beloved aunt and an uncle of my father, who were devout students of this Science. The first outstanding healing in our family came when I was severely burned at the age of two and a half years. I had been taken for an extended visit to the home of my mother's sister in another state. She was not a Christian Scientist.
While my aunt was at the telephone, I pulled a large kettle of boiling doughnut grease down from the stove onto my face and the left side of my body. My aunt called a young doctor who was boarding at her home. He said that I could not live until morning. Later that evening my aunt recalled the statement my mother had made as we left her: "In case of illness, call a Christian Science practitioner." My aunt knew only one person in the town who was interested in Christian Science. She went to see this person, a new student who said that she did not yet know how to give a treatment, but that she would pray for me as well as she knew how. My aunt thanked her and returned home.
