WHAT IS THE TRINITY?

From the September 1959 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In Christian theology, the Trinity has generally been regarded as the union of three persons in one Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Christian Science presents God not as a corporeal form, but as the one infinite Person, the one infinite Mind or Spirit, hence infinite individuality.

This infinite individuality, or Person, called God is never included in His creation or reflection. Such a condition would be pantheism. Therefore Christian Science teaches that whatever exists as creation is spiritual idea, God's expression, eternally dwelling in the divine Mind or infinite individuality.

In Christian Science three of the names for God are Life, Truth, and Love. These three names do not denote that there are three distinct gods; but they present three distinct aspects or views of the divine character of Deity. That is, God is all-embracing Love; He is also unerring Truth; and He is eternal, indestructible Life. Therefore we can say that God is triply divine, but never three persons or individualities in one. Life, Truth, and Love constitute the Trinity of God, Spirit, which Christian Scientists acknowledge.
