Freedom's Hour

From the September 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Truth alone can free us from a peace
which is not peace. Champions must be
vital soldiers for the things that are
and not be snared by dull complacency;
they know indeed the fiercest war of all
is now at hand. There is an urgency
for clearest thought. No weapon can enthrall
our courage nor distort our right desire.

Let the threats of detonating hate
look in vain for some identity.
Without a victim, they must dissipate
into nothing.
This is freedom's hour.
No blustering mortal ever stormed the gates
nor cleared the way; but we have heaven's power.
Let not the many millions wait in vain;
What they have lost, our love must prove their gain.
