One day at work I was stricken with severe abdominal pain. I tried to overcome it through my own prayer but was not successful right away; so I managed to telephone a Christian Science practitioner to ask for help. I was then taken home.
Since I live alone, my co-workers were concerned and tried to telephone my apartment manager, but they could not reach him. Knowing that I am a Christian Scientist, they telephoned the Reading Room of the branch church of which I am a member. Someone came into the Reading Room at that moment and immediately came to my apartment and read to me from our Christian Science literature. Later in the day someone else came to stay with me. In about three hours the pain had subsided. This occurred one Friday noon, and by Tuesday morning I was at the office.
This healing of what I believe was an attack of appendicitis has proved to be permanent. Two weeks after the healing I took a fifty-mile canoe trip with four friends, carrying a pack weighing thirty to forty pounds over many portages and paddling a canoe the entire distance, without any ill effect.
