Twelve years ago my only knowledge of Christian Science was that its adherents did not go to doctors. At that time I was a confused, moody individual, given over to the smoking and drinking habits, and in bondage to an unhappy past. My love and gratitude go to my dear mother-in-law and sister-in-law, who together gently guided me to the first simple truths of Christian Science that I was able to accept. As the logic and significance of these new ideas took hold in my thinking, many healings came.
One of the first was the healing of astigmatism, for which I had worn glasses. A callus on the bottom of one of my feet had made walking painful for several months; this was healed after a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, when I realized that the truth that had helped another was true for me too. Social drinking and smoking lost their attraction for my husband and me, and we gave up both as we became more interested in Science. One healing for which I am especially grateful was that of discordant family relationships, which I thought could never change. The improvement was all made in my own thinking, and then became apparent as a more harmonious family group.
When I was expecting our second child, my husband and I arranged for the baby to be born in the privacy and sanctity of our home. The birth was quick and harmonious and was an exalting experience for me and those who were with me. In the weeks following her birth, our daughter was healed of ingrowing toenails and fingernails.
