Mrs. Eddy, our loved and revered Leader, in speaking of Christian Science, says to us in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 336), "Part and parcel of Truth and Love, wherever one ray of its effulgence looks in upon the heart, behold a better man, woman, or child."
It is now over forty years since I turned to Christian Science for healing. My health had been far from vigorous since childhood. Fulfilling the simple responsibilities of a household, following marriage, appeared to overtax my limited endurance. In what seemed to be an extreme need, I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner.
I came away from that first visit to her office feeling indeed that an effulgent ray of divine Love had reached my heart. Although I had always loved the good and true, a deep desire for spiritual things was awakened in consciousness, and soon a better sense of health was apparent.
This beautiful healing, which progressively expressed itself in outward strength and vitality, was a turning point in my life. Membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and in The Mother Church was followed by class instruction. The influence of this instruction has continued to animate my life with spiritual purpose.
During many years Christian Science has been wholly relied upon by our family in times of illness and in the solution of other problems. One of the children, when very young, after remaining in an unconscious state for several hours because of an acute digestive disturbance was healed through the realization that God is man's Life and is ever present.
The following are a few of the healings experienced when the aid of a faithful practitioner was sought: a daughter, when at college, was healed instantaneously of appendicitis; my husband recovered from an attack of gallstones within a few days; a niece was healed of pneumonia, which was accompanied by hemorrhages; and a sister was restored to activity after a nervous breakdown.
After the loss of our son, who was in service in World War II, the truth was a tower of strength to me in overcoming a sense of grief, and it brought me a clearer understanding of man's inseparability from Life and his eternal existence as God's idea.
I continue to rejoice in the freedom and dominion which followed a prolonged struggle with fear when the safety of a member of the family was endangered. It was during the Christmas season when the danger seemed gravest that I awoke one morning before daylight and saw from my window the morning star. This was to me a heavenly message of hope and promise that the Christ was here and that Truth would triumph, as it did.
There were several occasions over a period of more than two years when I was taken suddenly and acutely ill. At these times my calling upon a practitioner brought quick relief and the healing balm of divine Love's nearness. This experience, with its valued lesson that good alone is power, has been a milestone in my spiritual progress.
This testimony would not be complete without an expression of gratitude for participation in branch church activity, which has been the means of testing and proving to some extent my understanding of the Christ, Truth. Each passing year increases my debt of gratitude for Mrs. Eddy and the church which she founded to extend the message of the healing Christ to the whole world.— Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
should like to verify the above testimony. I am the daughter who was healed instantaneously of appendicitis while in college. One day when I awakened acutely ill, the housemother of my dormitory, because of her concern about me, insisted that I go to the University Health Service. From there, I was sent to the hospital, where the doctors who examined me diagnosed the difficulty as appendicitis and wanted to operate the following day.
I called home from the hospital, requesting Christian Science treatment from a practitioner. The help I was given was so immediate and efficacious that the next morning I was discharged from the hospital completely well. This healing, which took place over twenty years ago, has been permanent.
My gratitude for what Christian Science has meant and is meaning in my experience is unending.— Shaker Heights, Ohio.
