Testimonies of Healing

By testifying to some of the healings we...

From the May 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

By testifying to some of the healings we have had in our family, I should like to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me.

When our elder daughter was in the first grade, she was standing before the fireplace when her nightgown and robe caught fire. I was sitting close by at the time with our six-month-old son in my arms and was reading "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy.

I was able to put the baby down and smother the flames with a towel and my own body. Although the robe and nightgown were charred up under her hair, which she wore well below her shoulders, her hair was untouched. But her legs were burned their full length.

My father, who lived close by, went out from our ranch fifteen miles to call a practitioner. In the meantime, I was earnestly praying to know God's allness and completeness and man's relationship to Him. The material picture was so terrifying to me that I knew I had to turn completely away from it to the perfection of man, who is created by God, as is recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. The child was in a normal sleep in less than half an hour; and as a result of the prayerful work that was done for her, she was back in school in a month's time.

This same child awoke one morning two years later with her eyes crossed. When I took her to school two days later, I asked her teacher to be understanding if she did not see clearly for a day or two. The teacher took off her glasses and showed me her own crossed eyes, saying that our daughter would have to wear glasses for the rest of her life. I knew this was not true, because I had been born crosseyed and had been healed in Christian Science.

When I got home, I earnestly studied all Mrs. Eddy has written about eyes. Then I diligently claimed true vision for each of God's ideas. I knew without doubt that what I was studying was the truth and that the picture drawn by the teacher was not. The next morning my daughter's eyes were straight and perfectly normal.

I should like to share one more experience to show that Christian Science solves any kind of problem we may be faced with. About nine years ago my husband, who had owned his own logging company in partnership with his brother, lost it through no fault of his own. We lost everything we owned except the house, which was mine before we were married. My husband was able to get a job right away but was injured in a logging accident. It became necessary for me to find a job, and I applied all over the community but was unable to secure one.

I knew all along that true supply, which is spiritual, comes from God and that He would supply me with the ability and opportunity to do whatever was necessary. When my husband felt it necessary to borrow money, I told him I would have a job by the sixth of the month. These words just popped out, and they surprised me as much as my husband, who, I'm sure, thought I'd lost my mind, for he knew I'd tried everywhere. Just the same, the words comforted him.

I did not seek a job further. I was called from one of the places where I had been told there was no chance for me. There was no telephone nearer than fifteen miles away, but the company called this place, even though I hadn't given them the address or telephone number. The woman who owns this little store saw to it that I received the message in time to keep the appointment with the company. I had a job by the first of the month.

When my husband was able to go back to work, a new home was provided in the town to which it was necessary for us to move. We also received a large check the day before we moved which came from a legitimate source and with which we were able to furnish our new home and completely pay for the car that we had to buy.

I want to express my gratitude for the help I have received from practitioners, for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and of serving a branch church in various capacities. I am grateful for our Saviour, Christ Jesus, for Mrs. Eddy, and for the joyous privilege of class instruction.—

I am the daughter mentioned in the above testimony. I should like to express my gratitude for the many wonderful healings in our family.

My younger sister, my brother, and I are the fourth generation of Scientists in our family. I am deeply grateful that we have had the privilege of knowing no healing method but Science.—
