For a long time now I have had the longing to express my gratitude for Christian Science and to share the blessings with others.
Through Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy has given us the understanding and spiritual power to overcome the aggressive claims of materialism. I have learned to know myself better in the light of the Scriptural teaching that man is the image and likeness of God.
I was introduced to Science through a coworker and experienced an instantaneous healing of a long-standing heavy cough through the understanding work of a Christian Science practitioner. However, I was later placed in a mental institution with a nervous breakdown. When the distress was greatest, the release came. It seemed that I could not pray any more, but even then deep in my heart was the assurance that God is the only power and that evil cannot harm me. I am very grateful for having crossed swords with this aggressive error and learned many lessons in the process. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 106), "God has endowed man with inalienable rights, among which are self-government, reason, and conscience." This I learned to claim as my heritage.
