For the first time I am living alone, and...

From the August 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For the first time I am living alone, and I am enjoying this grand opportunity to study the textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and to pray frequently as we are taught to do as students of Christian Science. I am very grateful for the spiritual understanding and light which have come to me from God. I am eighty-three years of age and until recently worked for others.

I was introduced to Science many years ago. When I read Science and Health for the first time, I found it contained the most sensible ideas I had ever been led to think about. I began to practice the truths of Christian Science myself. Years later one of my sisters became a Christian Science practitioner in Minnesota.

When our two boys were small, they had diphtheria. They did not suffer but could not eat or drink. We heard there were many cases in the neighborhood. My husband got in touch with a practitioner for Christian Science help. When the Health Officer came, he asked me what I had done for the boys. I told him we were having Christian Science treatment for them. He said he would come back and that if he found they still had diphtheria it would be hard on me. The boys were well in about three days, and the Health Officer did not come back.
