I consider it a great privilege to give this testimony and to express my gratitude for be Christian Science periodicals, the Dutch Edition of The Herald of Christian Science in particular.
Since 1936, when I first attended the Sunday School, I have experienced many blessings and healings and have felt God's guidance. After attending the Christian Science Sunday School for only a short while, I experienced an immediate healing of a sprained ankle through praying "the scientific statement of being," which I already knew by heart. The opening words are: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468). I knew of no one of my immediate acquaintance who was studying Christian Science, and so this was a reason for me to prove for myself what God meant to me. The healing came almost instantaneously, and this proved to me the importance of applying one's understanding.
During the Second World War, I received great support from what I understood of Christian Science. Just before the war I became a member of the Church of Christ, Scientist, in Amsterdam, and soon after joined The Mother Church. I also received class instruction at that time, for which I am still unspeakably grateful.
