Who is writing your scenario?

From the April 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

God's perfect work is not chemical or electrical; it is not a biological organization of material parts, not a material universe. It contains not an atom of matter, for God is Spirit, infinite Mind. The spiritual universe of Mind is the aggregate of all ideas emanating from Mind, of which man is foremost. Man is Mind's full expression of its infinitude of loveliness, beauty, harmony, immeasurable good. All that exists in reality is God, perfect Mind, expressing Himself through an infinitude of ideas. God's perfect work is complete, finished, though unfolding eternally. "Ascribe ye greatness unto our God," Moses told the children of Israel. "He is the Rock, his work is perfect." Deut. 32:3, 4;

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, frequently uses figurative language in her writings to better enable the spiritual seeker to grasp the true nature of creation. Some statements that have been meaningful to me are those that liken the mortal sense of existence, a counterfeit of the divine, to a show or stage production. For instance, referring to the dream of mortal existence, Mrs. Eddy says, "Upon this stage of existence goes on the dance of mortal mind." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 250; She also writes: "The baptism of Spirit, or final immersion of human consciousness in the infinite ocean of Love, is the last scene in corporeal sense. This omnipotent act drops the curtain on material man and mortality." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 205;

There is usually more than one act to a play, and there are often many scenes before the final curtain. Mortal mind, the supposititious counterfeit of divine Mind, claims to use our thought to act out the belief that intelligence, substance, and life are material conditions. It seems to present one scene of mortal life after another. But there is no mortal mind to counterfeit the divine Mind and its creative activity. The mortal appearance is only an aspect of the farce of materiality; it is not reality.
