A recent instantaneous healing inspires me to write this testimony. For several months I had pain and stiffness in both hands and one arm. The pain became so severe that I found it necessary to telephone a Christian Science practitioner for help. The practitioner's prompt response was clear and direct: "There is no life in matter; there is no matter." These words were spoken with such firmness and conviction that I, too, was convinced of these absolute truths. Immediately I felt the pain leaving the hand. As I hung up the receiver I saw with amazement that the hand, which had been swollen to double its size, was normal in size, and the fingers, which had been practically immovable, moved freely. I did not see the swelling diminish—it simply was not there! I then understood, as taught in Science, that in reality the condition just never had existed as part of my true being. This illustrates Mary Baker Eddy's statement (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 114), "In Science, Mind is one, including noumenon and phenomena, God and His thoughts."
This healing filled me with such awesome wonderment that I could not talk about it to anyone. It brought deeper insight and a more expansive view of the allness of God. This helped me to understand better how Christ Jesus healed. There has been no return of the difficulty. I can never express in words my deep gratitude to God and to the consecrated practitioner for this wonderful healing.
My first healing in Science took place when I was a young girl. My sister, who had received a physical healing, had asked me to read Science and Health. As I read, it became clear to me that it was not medicine that healed but one's faith in it. Therefore I decided to lift my faith higher to God and to let God heal me. I threw away the medicine I had been taking and continued reading. I was then and there permanently healed of chronic sick headaches.
