A testimony that I heard given at a Wednesday testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, inspired one of my first healings. This healing came through relying entirely on Christian Science, and it was proof that "whoso hearkeneth unto me [God] shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil" (Prov. 1:33).
As a young bride, I worked at an evening job that necessitated my driving home through a dark and unpleasant section of the city. I was quite fearful until hearing, in the testimony I have mentioned, of a child who had been lost in the woods. When he was finally found and was asked if he was not afraid to be alone, the child replied, "But I wasn't alone. God was with me." As I thought about this, I began to realize something of God's power and presence. The fear left me, and I was able to drive at night with complete freedom. This healing has been a beacon throughout my life since then as a working Christian Scientist.
By the time our third child was expected, I had become a member of The Mother Church and a branch church, and I felt a deep desire to have the child born at home. Twenty years ago this was "not done" in our area, and making the arrangements presented quite a challenge to me. But as I prayed diligently with the help of a Christian Science practitioner, the way became clear.
