Poems

The recipients

From the October 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We have lived in the house of universal prayer
Built by tender mothering
Guiding fathering.
We benefited in the center
Still received at the perimeter.
A building of sheltering light for all ages.

We are ready to give thanks.
It is our turn to hear the old song
See the same pattern
Feel the seamless robe
Taste the bread and wine.

Our prayers are part of timeless yearning,
Constant knowing by every scientific Christian,
All those who know, "Thy will be done."
We are a rejoicing that cannot be hidden.
We will always be God's witness;
Mankind must be the recipient—
As surely as Isaiah's wild beasts
Shall dwell together in peace
And as the child in the midst is seen leading.
