Christ and Christ-healing: footing and foundation for building up church

From the June 1987 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christ Jesus taught his followers that church building could only begin with and continue from the basis of Christ, the immortal spiritual manhood that he exemplified. Commending the acknowledgment that his true selfhood was Christ, Jesus said, "Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."Matt. 16:18. The foundation that Jesus laid on the rock, Christ, was his healing and saving ministry, based on the truth of man's oneness with and likeness to God.

Christian Science presents the scientific system of Christ healing practiced by Jesus and his immediate disciples.

Through practice of Christian Science, we, too, lay a foundation for church building, a foundation of prayerful, metaphysical healing resting on the truth of being. And as we free ourselves through spiritual regeneration from such "unchristianity" as materiality, selfishness, inharmony, and apathy, God's Church shines through our lives and therefore through our church organization.
