I am grateful to have been raised in Christian Science. I have experienced healings of injuries, relationship troubles, and difficulties concerned with home and location.
In 1985 after I had read some information that challenged Christian Science, the following question came to me: What would I do if medical surgery seemed necessary? Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy states (p. 202): "We admit that God has almighty power, is 'a very present help in trouble;' and yet we rely on a drug or hypnotism to heal disease, as if senseless matter or erring mortal mind had more power than omnipotent Spirit." (On the next page, Science and Health points out: "In the Science of Christianity, Mind—omnipotence—has all-power, assigns sure rewards to righteousness, and shows that matter can neither heal nor make sick, create nor destroy.")
After much thought another question came to me that served as a guideline to answer my original question. It was, Can I make spiritual progress through material means? Not long after these questions arose I had an opportunity to answer them from personal experience.
