One night after driving into our garage, my husband and I were confronted by two men armed with pistols. They forced us to lie down on the garage floor where we were bound and gagged. Our heads were covered with a drape. For over an hour, they ransacked the house, then loaded things in our car, preparing to use it for their getaway. Later I was raped.
It was very difficult for me to come to grips with the situation. I knew I must pray. But what? How? I reached out to God; the thought came to me that God is here. I repeated it to myself several times, but fear entered my thought, and I questioned how God could be in our garage under such an awful circumstance. But the conviction that God is here became my prayer. I repeated it until my fear was quieted; then I really began to understand it. I began to know that God is here, that He is ever present and able to sustain us through any situation, no matter how severe it appears to be.
I was not injured further, and once the men drove away we both worked at freeing ourselves, and soon my husband was able to get to the telephone and call the police. Calls were then made to a family member and to a Christian Science practitioner to further support us through prayer.
