The Workshop

From the December 1989 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A man had just stepped out of church after the Sunday service and found himself greeted by a small child, a visitor in the Sunday School that morning. She was systematically giving each grown-up an animal cracker from the box her dad had given to keep her occupied. "I haven't had an animal cracker in years!" the man remarked, obviously touched by the girl's generosity.

Childlikeness—with what love and forthrightness it reaches others. When we see it—not a sweet sentimentality but an unadorned directness—no matter what our age, it often puts things in fresh perspective. Can we bring something of this quality to our work in the world, to ministering to community needs through branch church membership?

Christ Jesus said of his disciples, "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." But in this prayer to his heavenly Father he continued, "As thou has sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world" (John).
