Whether at a shopping mall, on a college campus, or in the foyer of a church, a bulletin board is a great place for people to share information. You can learn a lot about an active community from reading local bulletin boards. We hope you'll enjoy this bulletin board and feel encouraged to join in and share experiences.
Something special was happening—something deeply significant. Strangers were rushing to find seats; cars were lining neighborhood streets long after our church parking lot was filled; our child-care room was teeming with new little faces. It was the first night of a lecture series called How Christian Science Heals. It continued for the next three Monday nights. There was definitely a spiritual impetus. Newcomers stayed late with thoughtful, probing questions. Guests lingered to read accounts of healing on our bulletin boards and to ponder and accept free copies of the Bible, Science and Health, Quarterlys, and periodicals. We learned of healing resulting, of people reading the textbook for the first time. We saw new people at our church services, new children in our Sunday School. Our Reading Room was busier and sales were up. And this event coincided with debate on a bill in our state legislature relating to parents' rights to rely on spiritual healing for their children.
How did this all come about? Was it just a question of clever planning? Not really. We realized that there was no way we could have anticipated the timing of the state senate bill nor could we have foreseen that four lecturers would have lectures that fitted together so perfectly. So how did it happen? Our conclusion is that it came about through turning wholeheartedly to God. During the months before these lectures, we resisted the temptation to get caught up in too many details.
