"Jesus established his church and maintained his mission on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing." Science and Health, p. 136. — Mary Baker Eddy
Beginning in the 1880s more and more of Mrs. Eddy's students spread across the United States and began to practice what they had learned of Christian healing. The road was often far from easy for these students, but they had hearts that burned within them to share the present power of Christ, Truth. They simply could not view the sufferings of their neighbor and then pass by on the other side.
Christian Science brought into their lives not only a new wholeness and freedom but a vital, active sense of "God with us." God was no longer just a belief or a point of faith. God was a surety. God's presence was felt and seen as a living power, directing and motivating all that they did. This delivered and transformed their lives. It made them genuine Christian disciples, genuine Christian Scientists.
