When I was teaching in a local senior school, the deputy head teacher was absent for several weeks. On his return, he told me he had been suffering from severe back trouble, that this was a recurrent problem, and that he was scheduled to have a back operation as a last resort.
The next day I gave him a copy of Science and Health. Nothing further was said (although I was regularly praying in support of the book's message) until a staff meeting three months later. During the meeting (at which he was seated next to me), he turned to tell me he no longer needed an operation, and that he credited Science and Health with his recovery. When he moved to another school, where my son was a pupil, he mentioned to my son how much I had helped him and how grateful he was. He still has the book, and I am sure its message is still helping him.
