My family's involvement with Christian Science began when my grandmother was diagnosed with incurable stomach cancer. She was taken to the home of a Christian Science practitioner thirty-five kilometers away, and remained there for a few days. She came back healed. I remember my mother told us, "Grandma can eat anything, even beans." We were very grateful for this healing.
When my little cousin was run over by a car, my aunt, wearing an apron and no shoes, took the seriously injured child by car to that same practitioner. My cousin remained under Christian Science treatment for a few days, after which she was fine. Thus Christian Science was disseminated among my aunts and uncles.
At one time there was a typhoid epidemic in our village. Entire families were dying, and my sister came down with this malady. She was taken to the practitioner, and came home healed.
