Joyous responses to Christian Science since 1996 Olympics

From the August 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When we began preparing the jointly-maintained Christian Science Reading Room in downtown Atlanta for the Olympic Games last summer, we envisioned a flurry of activity during that two-week period, since we're located near the Olympic site. But none of us ever dreamed that this would just be a beginning as far as our outreach was concerned! Since the Olympics, the Reading Room has been going through an amazing ... metamorphosis, with momentum that is extending well beyond the downtown community. Surely, though, this is the result of the activity of the Christ, stemming from a renewed dedication on the part of church members to commit themselves to serving in the Reading Room this past year, and to beholding the perfect man of God's creating as the true selfhood of everyone.

Not long after the Olympics ended, for example, a downtown businesswoman, after reading her first copy of the Christian Science Sentinel, came into the Reading Room and exclaimed, "You are a light in this community!"

She said she could not believe what she read in the Sentinel, and she asked lots of questions about Christian Science. Then she bought the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. She said that she had been involved in churches that have talked about what they plan to do, but here she found a church that was actually doing it! She left her card, and we added her to our mailing list.
